The first session is called an intake session. Typically once settled in, we will review consent, confidentiality, and practice policies so that you’re informed on the process of therapy. Additionally, I’ll share more information on how I practice and give you plenty of time to ask any lingering questions. We often will review things like if you have been to therapy before, what you’re hoping to get out of therapy, and any expectations you may have of the therapeutic process. The second half of a first session is spent doing a brief overview on your background, history, and clinical concerns.
I know a first session can sometimes feel like alot, sometimes people carry the weight of having to go through their history with a new person - and tell the story all at once, once again. My recommendation is that we go slow, theres no need to get it all out at once and go over every detail in the first session. We spend time building trust until your nervous system knows you’re safe here, I will carry the pace so you can exhale. -
Session ends around the 50-minute mark. Sometimes a bit more or a bit less, depending on where we’re at in the process. I will ask your permission for an extra minute or two if I feel it’s beneficial for your treatment, while always striving to honor your time.
Typically, sessions are held weekly or biweekly, depending on the case. Treatment frequency is determined based on appropriate treatment protocols and is case-dependent. Additionally, biweekly frequency can make therapy more affordable. You will be involved in the decision-making process around frequency based on what is best for your needs.

Possibly - with too much nuance to name here: most forms of therapy involve some level of “talk therapy.”
However, it's worth asking why insight hasn't translated into change. That's usually a sign the work needs to go somewhere talk therapy alone doesn't reach: the nervous system, the parts of you operating outside conscious control.
If you can explain your patterns perfectly but still can't shift them, that's not a insight problem. Your nervous system has held the story longer than words. Traditional "talk therapy" starts in your head & moves down.
Instead of rehashing what you've gone over 500x, I'll slow you down and move you towards experiencing: letting your thoughts, feelings, and beliefs take up space and find shape in new ways within you. But also, if you need a traditional yap sess, let's go! -
Tell me! It might be something I can change about sessions, or it may just be that we aren’t a fit. Either way, I want to know.
Research consistently indicates that the biggest predictor of therapeutic success outcomes is the therapeutic alliance, aka the relationship between you and your therapist.
I want what’s going to lead to your best outcomes - even if that means I am not the best fit. If this is the case, I am more than happy to help you resource and find a therapist that you feel is better suited to your needs.
